ROSE builds community and strengthens neighborhood economies that Revitalize Outer South East
Services to ROSE residents promote their self-sufficiency and the viability of our rental communities. ROSE offers both core resident services such as information and referral, and enhanced services forused on economic opportunities and children's successes:
Residents of ROSE rental housing -- especially young children -- can take advantage of an exciting array of community programs in Outer Southeast. Throughout the year we work with volunteers and staff to provide tutoring support and after school activities for youth. In the summer, we partner with the Audobon Society of Portland to provide outdoor camp opportunities to youth at no cost. We work with the Boys and Girls Club of Portland, Portland Parks and Recreation, Timbers Tix for Kids, and a wide variety of other community partners. In 2011, ROSE provided school supplies to 67 students in our housing, thanks to generous donations. Thanks to the generosity of Great Day Fellowship and local grocery stores, we are able to provide weekly, healthy food donations to residents at 3 different housing properties.
Photo Voice From January to June 2011, youth and adult residents examined Leander Court Apartments and their neighborhood and identified barriers and opportunities for healthy living. Residents attended weekly meetings, took pictures, participated in dialogues to analyze emerging themes, and wrote captions for selected photos. They then partnered with ROSE staff to organize Photovoice exhibits to raise awareness about their community and advocate for change.
Child Parent Resource In 2011 we launched our Child Parent Resource (CPR) program for ROSE residents and others in outer SE Portland. Home visitors work with the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) curriculum to better prepare children ages 3-5 to enter Kindergarten. Participants receive weekly activity packets and instruction at no cost.
Bellrose Community Garden The residents of Bellrose came together to build a community garden on March 17 at Bellrose Station Apartments! Thanks to the following for making the day possible: East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District, 52nd Ave. Hardware, Progressive Builders, His Bakery, Growing Gardens, and our community volunteers that helped out!
